• Description: REMAV-SP-Internet 2 Duration: 2 years Partners: CCE, INCOR, UNIFESP, PUC-SP, Telefônica, NET. Value: R$ 550,000.00 The objective of the REMAV-SP Project, aiming at the international effort of Internet 2, was the creation of a high-speed metropolitan network used to interconnect universities, research centers and service operators within the State of São Paulo and the development of research work involving applications of Tele-Education, Tele-Medicine and Management and Security systems of this environment. The network infrastructure implemented employs ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) technology with fiber optic links operating at 155Mbps. These links are used to interconnect USP, through LARC and CCE, PUC-SP, UNIFESP, InCor, Telefônica and NET, as well as FAPESP, which participates in this consortium as a supporting entity. This infrastructure serves to carry out various research projects, including those related to the transport of multimedia information over IP switching. Regarding activities related to Tele-Education, the goals were: the development of a methodology for preparing online multimedia courses, exercises and tests; the development and/or integration of tools for creating such multimedia materials; the creation of infrastructure for the production, storage and distribution of these materials; and the creation of infrastructure for the storage and consultation of a digital library. These services are offered to the university community and the general public through the high-speed network infrastructure and the Internet. Research activities related to Telemedicine included the transmission and visualization of medical images in broadband and the interaction between Health Institutions aimed at exchanging clinical information. In the area of ​​management, mechanisms for monitoring and controlling network resources and services were researched.
