Projects: Blockchain and Tokenization

2024 - Present - Blockchain Research Institute

  • Coordinator: Marcos Antonio Simplicio Junior
  • Description: Research project with the Blockchain Research Institute Ltd.

2022 – Present - Polichain - Extension group for the study of Blockchain at the Polytechnic School of USP.

  • Coordinator: Marcos Antonio Simplicio Junior
  • Description: The Blockchain Study Group of the Polytechnic School of USP (Polichain), formerly called Nabla, was founded at the end of 2021 by undergraduate students with the aim of deepening their studies in Blockchain. One of the main motivations was the lack of clarity between the terms used by both the media and the market. Therefore, we decided that the group would be a study group. From the beginning, the group has had great support from UBRI (University Blockchain Research Initiative), which allowed us to have contact with blockchain projects within USP. Among the activities carried out by the group, we can highlight the following: Hackathons: In these intensive programming events, participants have 56 hours to create a functional prototype, going through the idea, product and code phases. This is definitely when the group is most active. Events: These include question and answer sessions with experts (AMA), introductions to technological concepts (1.01) and practical workshops (hands-on). In addition, we also participate in events held by the community, such as meet-ups focused on the crypto universe. These events are often organized by Polichain and can be considered a routine activity of the group.

2021 – Present - Blockchain, Cryptocurrencies, Decentralized Technologies.

  • Description: This document describes a proposal for a credit-bearing course to be offered at the University of São Paulo, Brazil (USP -- https://www5.usp.br/). It is expected to become part of the curriculum of the Computer Engineering program offered at USPs Engineering School (Escola Politécnica - https://www.poli.usp.br/), being placed in the 5th year of this program together with other elective courses currently being offered. This means that it will be offered once a year, with classes taking place weekly during one academic semester. Enrolled students are expected to be mainly from USPs Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Computer Science degree programs. Also, the courses contents will be offered openly for any interested party, even for those not enrolled at the university. Specifically, all material (slides for lectures, lecture video recordings, lecture notes, syllabus, homework, and other support material) will be made available for free online not only via USPs official platforms for online courses (namely, https://eaulas.usp.br/ and https://edisciplinas.usp.br/), but also on a site that does not require creating a login for access (e.g. Github, Youtube, or IPFS) or the material will be made available for the Grantor to publish online..

2019 – Present - USP Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI).

  • Coordinator: Marcos Antonio Simplicio Junior
  • Description: The USP Blockchain Research Initiative, supported by Ripple, brings together researchers from different areas of knowledge and research units, such as the Polytechnic School (EP), the Faculty of Law (FD), the Faculty of Economics, Administration and Accounting (FEA), and the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics (IME), in addition to having the support of the Superintendence of Information Technology (STI). The project also has partnerships outside the University of São Paulo. The scope of the initiative includes, in addition to the search for pioneering research and technical innovations, holding events to discuss topics that address blockchain, cryptography, cybersecurity, and regulatory issues. 2019 – Present - Amazon Biobank: Blockchain as an enabling technology for the Amazon 4.0.

  • Coordinator: Marcos Antonio Simplicio Junior
  • Description: (This project is part of the USP Blockchain Research Initiative -- UBRI) This project aims to use Blockchain, BitTorrent, Smart Contracts and related collaborative technologies to create an ecosystem where residents from the Amazonian Rainforest can develop sustainable economic activities community-based economy be remunerated for the vast biodiversity available in the region. This should create an alternative economic venue for the region, reducing inequality and helping with the environmental preservation. The technical/engineering part of project is funded by Ripple, as part of the USP Blockchain Research Initiative, and it is one of the technical branches that support the broader Amazon 4.0 initiative led by the brothers Carlos and Ismael Nobre..
