Abstract

As advanced networks propogate around the world, many new distribution methods for cultural events are available. Internet2 has demonstrated the distribution and interactive possibilities of live performance events ranging from dance to music. Many institutions have followed and expanded the capabilites so now that world reknowned artists are available in high quality streaming cultural events, using technologies such as DVTS and HD over IP. Finding the events and adjusting for the time zones can mean missing operas from Spain or dance from Korea. Through a collaboration of AARNET, ANF, LARC, ResearchChannel, Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya, and SURFnet a new portal supporting streaming of events has been developed by the RC-Global partnership. This group seeks to distribute scientific information and cultural events worldwide using the latest technologies. The panel will discuss recent and future performances, the technology behind the distribution including open source options and the portal that brings these events to your campus.
