CCE-USP receives distinction at Mário Covas Award

Project for sustainable disposal of e-waste receives Honorable Mention.

The project  "Creation of Transformation Chain for E-waste" developed by the Electronic Computing Center at Universidade de São Paulo  - CCE-USP received an Honorable Mention in the "Inovation in Public Management" category at the Gov. Mario Covas Award. The award ceremony happened at April 8th, 2009, at São Paulo's Municipal Theater. at São Paulo Prêmio Governador Mário Covas no dia 8 de abril na cerimônia realizada no Teatro Municipal.

The certificate was delivered to Prof. Tereza Cristina M. de Brito Carvalho, CCE head director and LARC tecnical director, through the hands of State secretaries Sidney Beraldo and Geraldo Alckmin.

In the 5th edition of the Award, which highlights projects focused at improving Public Administration, there has been 184 applicants, from which 40 have been selected to the semifinals. The CCE project received the distinction among the 25 finalists.

When CCE's sustainability program was created, Prof. Tereza envisioned that Universidade de São Paulo would become a reference on disseminating in the society sustainable ideas at Information Technology and e-waste handling. The team responsible for the project is formed by CCE's employees, with support from researchers from USP and MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and the awarded project is part  of the larger sustainability program.
